How I Made This Keto
You might think beef skewers are naturally Keto, but hidden carbs can sneak in through sweetened marinades or sauces. Restaurant versions and many recipes often include honey, sugar, barbeque sauce, soy sauce, and vegetable oil, all of which are carb culprits.
To keep it Keto, we:
- Eliminated any sweetness, as it’s unnecessary for steak skewers.
- Swapped out barbeque sauce for a mix of spices like chili powder, cumin, and ginger to add flavor.
- Replaced soy sauce with gluten-free tamari sauce or coconut aminos.
- Used olive oil instead of vegetable oil.
What is Chinese Five Spice Seasoning?
Chinese five spice is a blend of five spices, commonly including cloves, Chinese cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, fennel seeds, and star anise. It can also contain ginger, nutmeg, turmeric, licorice, galangal, cardamom, and anise seeds. It’s versatile and can be used as a rub for various meats or added to stews and marinades, particularly in Asian cuisine.
