As the cold weather sets in, comfort meals and cozy clothes become essential. Start with this delicious chocolate drink and patiently wait for Christmas. As a chocolate fanatic, I also enjoy a slice of coconut flour brownies alongside this drink!

It takes just 5 minutes to prepare this cozy drink.

If you’re not a coffee fan but still want to enjoy the benefits of a bulletproof drink, add MCT oil or grass-fed butter. Blend until frothy and enjoy. For a Nutella-like hot chocolate, add a teaspoon of hazelnut butter!

Hot chocolate is a mood booster and my favorite hot drink. It’s easy to make and will impress all the chocolate lovers in your family. You can always adjust the ingredients to suit your taste buds.

Ingredients for Keto Hot Chocolate

The secret ingredient that makes this hot chocolate healthy and thick is chia seeds. I usually grind them into a powder using a coffee grinder and store it in an airtight container. This powder thickens smoothies instantly or makes keto chia pudding faster. You can use ground chia seeds directly to thicken the drink.

Chia seeds are high in fiber and will keep you full longer. Aztec warriors and Mayans used these tiny seeds as a sustainable source of energy and endurance.

For this hot cocoa, you will need:

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds powder
  • 1-2 tbsp keto sweetener (erythritol or xylitol)
  • 1/4 cup canned coconut milk or heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Whipped cream for serving

How to Make Keto Hot Chocolate

  1. Blend Ingredients: Gather all ingredients and blend them together. Use warm milk, not hot, for safety.
  2. Heat Drink: Transfer the warm chocolate drink to a saucepan and heat it up, stirring constantly until it starts to boil. This step makes the hot chocolate thick and creamy.
  3. Serve: Serve the hot chocolate with plenty of whipped cream on top. For a dairy-free, paleo version, skip the whipped cream.
